rules of golf
golf rules when your putting?

monday i went to the golf course. at around the 6th hole my brother was putting and I was holding the flag. when he putted he hit the pole of the flag which was about 2 inches away from the hole it stopped the ball giving him a very easy second put. my question is should I have taken a stroke or is it just something you just leave alone

Interesting question. I think nobody is getting a stroke. As you did it by mistake and you are not his partner (as in his caddie, or team) so he doesn’t take a stroke either.

But why would you hold the flag so close to the hole anyway?

Are you a golfer looking to complete your foursome? Why not share a cart and a laugh with Dr. Dom, Shoeless Ed and Mr. Scotty No Show! So you think you have seen it all on the golf course? You have witnessed the unbelievable and the comical. But how do your stories compare with the thirty-one found in this book? You may have a better one. And, if so, it may be worthy of an entry in Volume Two! Perhaps it reads something like this… Rules of Golf prohibit a player from assisting his opponent in locating a lost ball. Being Al s opponents for the round, Mark and I waited while Al and Joe rummaged through the forest looking for Al’s ball.We were becoming somewhat concerned when, at the seven minute mark, Joe emerged from the woods. He walked out alone and he was smiling. Mark and I looked at each other in disbelief. Was there something red dripping from the head of Joe s 3-iron? How would we explain that the boss went missing playing golf? What did Joe do with his body and how were we going to protect our friend?

A Walk Down the Fairway of Value Added Tax

A Walk Down the Fairway of Value Added Tax

$21.37

Value Added Tax (VAT) is probably the furthest thought from anyone”s mind as they look out from the golf course clubhouse towards the first tee. But for anyone involved in the administration of golfing clubs, and in particular with their finances, grappling with VAT has been a thorny issue ever since it was introduced in the UK in 1973. This book is intended as a guide to the basic rules of VAT as they affect UK golf clubs. The book highlights many of the most common problems likely to arise in the context of VAT, and offers some practical solutions, such as how to avoid an unexpected VAT bill on a refurbishment of the clubhouse. With this book as a reference, it will be easier to avoid the many VAT bunkers which can create unwelcome and costly traps for golf clubs.

Of late, the USGA has been putting all sorts of rules and restrictions on club head design to prevent that very situation from occurring. This is why designers have to be more creative in designing clubs. One method is to design clubs around the way average golfers swing, rather than creating perfect clubs and expecting golfers to swing that way. The most common tendency is when a golfer comes over the top and makes an outside-in move evident by most shots off the tee resulting into a push, fade or the dreaded slice. A Golf Digest article Add 42 Yards Now explained that if you were able to change to more of an inside-out movement a golfer who swung 95 mph could gain as much as 42 yards. Of course, this would require a huge change in how the person swings the club and let’s face it most golfers are not going to be able to put in that time and effort. But through creating design features in the club head, the golfer can be encouraged to make more of an inside path. This is how the Acer XDS Insider got its name. The profile of the head as well as the contour on the crown was specifically designed to create a mental picture of swinging from the inside to encourage one to swing the driver on an inside-out swing path instead of that dreaded distance robbing over-the-top move. The XDS Insider also helps you in other ways. Internal weighting creates a draw bias shifting weight toward the heel to assist in rotating the head and squaring the face at impact. The face angle is a little more closed than normal to provide some additional corrective measures but cleverly disguised by the masking on the crown to provide a square appearance so they can just trust their natural swing. Lastly, the Acer XDS Insider also boasts a variable face thickness, cup face design to make the entire club face becomes one gigantic sweet spot and ensure all the distance possible. The body of the Masters rules committee chairman is found floating in the pond in front of the 12th green on the morning that Sam Skarda arrives at Augusta National Golf Club to play in his first Masters. Skarda, a 37-year-old police detective on medical leave from the Minneapolis police department, is an accomplished amateur golfer who won the U.S. Publinx and an invitation to play in the Masters while rehabbing a shooting injury suffered on the job. Evidence left at the crime scene suggests the murder might have been tied to the ongoing protest by a women’s group that has been demanding that the club admit women members. Then a crusading New York Times columnist is murdered on the grounds of the club two days later. Local police suspect the murders might have been committed by a member and begin pressuring the new Augusta National president for access to the club’s membership information. The club chairman asks Skarda for help finding the killer before the police thoroughly invade Augusta National’s legendary privacy. Skarda looks for answers from members, veteran journalists, longtime caddies and ex-employees who may know why someone is determined to bring this year’s Masters to a halt. He also falls for Caroline Rockingham, the soon-to-be ex-wife of one of the pre-tournament favorites, a former college golf teammate of Skarda’s. Sam and Caroline themselves become targets as the murders continue and pressure to cancel the tournament builds. Meanwhile, the killer methodically prepares for a spectacular and deadly Sunday climax.

The body of the Masters rules committee chairman is found in the middle of the 10th fairway on the morning that Sam Skarda arrives at Augusta National Golf Club to play in his first Masters. Skarda, a 33-year-old police detective on medical leave from the Minneapolis police department, is an accomplished amateur golfer who won the U.S. Augusta: Home of the Masters Tournament

Augusta: Home of the Masters Tournament

$19

Founded in 1933, the Augusta National Golf Club is the perfect course. Co-designed by legends Bobby Jones and Alister MacKenzie, Augusta boasts gorgeous fairways and perfectly manicured greens, set against a breathtaking backdrop of azaleas and pines. Every April, the invitation-only Masters Tournament is watched by millions of avid viewers around the globe. But the exclusive club, with a membership comprising some of the world’s most powerful and influential men, is also notorious for a legacy of secrets and controversy. Journalist and novelist Steve Eubanks used all of his investigative and storytelling talents to get to the heart of Augusta’s turbulent history, including its 44-year rule under the iron fist of Cliff Roberts and his suicide on the club’s grounds; the Masters’ impetuous yet long-standing relationship with CBS; allegations of racism; and the club’s countless, rigid rules (members can even be expelled for wearing their green Augusta blazers outside the club). With 45 inspiring photographs, Eubanks’s balanced account also captures the historic moments that evoke deep affection for Augusta, from Dwight Eisenhower teeing off in the days before the Masters was televised to Jack Nicklaus’s emotional victory at age 46, 23 years after he won his first green jacket. With a new chapter on Tiger Woods’s 1997 triumph and published just in time for the 1998 Masters, Augusta is essential reading for anyone who wants the complete story of American golf’s most hallowed ground.

Back Swings: A Golf Omnibus

$19.99

A collection of the best writing from James Y. Bartlett, one of the most-published golf writers of his generation, BACK SWINGS contains a fascinating mixture of player profiles, informative takes on the important issues of the game, and the best of this award-winning writer’s travel stories from golfing around the globe. Golf fans will enjoy the up-close-and-personal vignettes in “Caddiewampus,” the chapter in which Bartlett recounts his often hilarious adventures as a caddie for the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Ernie Els, Corey Pavin and Ben Crenshaw. Throughout the book, Bartlett’s unique style and passion for the royal and ancient game shines through. Whether he’s writing a never-before-published glimpse of golfing great Sam Snead in his twilight years (“St. Francis of the Fairways”); relating his performance anxiety when caddying for the great Jack Nicklaus (“Caddying for the Big Guy”); describing some of the idiotic rules of golf and how we manage to break them (“Wattery Filth, Animal Scrapes and Loose Impediments”); or writing about how the Coefficient of Restitution problem might have deeper meaning for all of us (“Golf’s Great Human Question”), Bartlett’s wit, knowledge and deep understanding of golf leap off the pages. Our Tug-a-jug Treat Dispenser dog toy is a great way to entertain your dog while mentally stimulating him to work for his treats.Recommended Breed Sizing:X-Small: Chihuahua, Yorkie, Pomeranian.Small: Beagle, Cocker Spaniel, Sheltie.PLEASE NOTE: Some dogs may chew through the rope during play. However, this doesn’t mean that the toy is unusable. Many people and their dogs have had much success continuing to play with their Tug-a-Jug by placing various sized balls inside the jug with kibble or treats. As the balls roll back and forth, they act as a barrier and method of metering the food. By changing the size of the balls or the treats, the level of difficulty can be adjusted to suit your dog’s level of play and interest. We recommend using a couple of golf balls or a Wiffle ball to begin with to build your dog’s confidence as he plays. Once he understands the new rules of the game, you can increase the number and/or diameter of the balls. As always, we encourage you to observe your dog as he plays and to take the toy away as necessary.

If you’re a student of the game, you need Conscious Golf.” —Tom Green, general counsel for Dell Computer Corporation “Conscious Golf is a clear and purely enjoyable look into how conscious living leads directly to success on and off the course. Told with candid personal accounts of his passion for golf and even greater passion for living, Gay Hendricks has given every reader the secrets with the grace and power of a pure swing done to perfection.” —John Morton, director of The Movement for Inner Spiritual Awareness and author of The Blessings Already Are “Gay Hendricks offers up a fairway full of wisdom and wit. His three simple rules will bring more joy into your life, more success into your career and fewer strokes to your golf game!”—Mark Albion, author of Making a Life, Making a Living

He who rules the short game collects the gold. –Dave Pelz’s Golden Rule of Golf Fed up with trying to imitate the pros, buying the latest expensive equipment, and seeing your handicap stay the same? The result of decades of scientific research studying thousands of golfers, Dave’s philosophy is as simple as it is revolutionary and groundbreaking: Instead of practicing the wrong things the right way, or the right things the wrong way, Pelz shows you how to find your own personal weaknesses and how to improve them to efficiently lower your scores. Dave’s approach to golf is easy to understand: 80 percent of the strokes golfers lose to par are determined by their play within 100 yards of the green–the crucial scoring game. The most important and yet the least focused-on aspect of golf, your short game, can indeed make or break your entire game. And nobody teaches the short game like Dave Pelz. His renowned golf schools and clinics focus exclusively on putting and the short game, attracting top players like Tom Kite, Colin Montgomerie, two-time U.S. Open champion Lee Janzen, reigning PGA champion Vijay Singh, Steve Elkington, Payne Stewart, Peter Jacobsen, and many LPGA players including Annika Sorenstam and Liselotte Neumann. Disorderly Compendium of Golf

$0.99

The obsessive book about the obsessive game, and more fun to read than a green at Ballybunion. Written by two authors who have misspent their lives in thrall to the sport, A DISORDERLY COMPENDIUM OF GOLF digs into the odd, the fascinating, the historical, the random, the unexpected, and the curmudgeonly, and serves up hundreds of pages of lists, anecdotes, humor, surprises, and the sheer compelling minutiae of a game whose pleasure lies in the details. It’s all here, including history: oldest courses, top 5 money-winners at 10-year intervals, the importance of James II of Scotland. Colorful characters, like the hustler who would bet you that he could roll out of bed in the morning and make a 40-foot putt on his first try, and his secret for doing it every time. Odd rules: Did you know youmay take a free drop from a fireant hill but not from poison ivy? Good golf instruction—how to hit Phil Mickelson’s trademark flop shot—and confusing golf instruction: Tom Watson says “Never feel you’re reaching for the ball,” while Johnny Miller advises“ Reach for the ball. . . .” Embarrassing moments and helpful tips. The lexicon: professionalcaddie nicknames, terms for an ugly shot, names of golf balls. Plus gambling games, the grasses used in greens, unusual patents, Shakespearean quotes on golf, golf at midnight, longest and shortest holes . . . and more, and more.

Driving Myself Crazy: Misadventures of a Novice Golfer

$12.95

“Golf!” exclaimed Jessica Maxwell’s friend Rande. “I thought golf was for Republicans…and dorks!”Adventure writer Jessica Maxwell is neither, but she is a woman—and even today golf is primarily a sport for men. In fact, according to an unverifiable legend, the very name of the game comes from the words “Gentlemen Only, Ladies Forbidden.” But Jessica loves a challenge, and when she decided to invade this male-dominated territory, she plunged in headfirst, the same way she learned how to ski and fly fish—two very demanding sports she took up in her early thirties after a life as a confirmed “non-jockette.” Surely golf couldn’t be that much more difficult…could it?Breezy and offbeat, Driving Myself Crazy is Jessica’s first-person account of her golfing education—the teachers, the theories, the mistakes and misadventures, and the confidence she feels once her game begins to improve. In this irreverent memoir, we get a front-row seat as Jessica struggles to learn golf’s etiquette, customs, and rules of engagement—from her first comical attempts to simply hit the damn ball, to the ultimate sign of arrival as a bona fide woman golfer… a complete set of Nancy Lopez clubs! Among those who help Jessica master the game are Peter Croker, a revolutionary teaching pro from Australia, and Cindy Swift Jones, his partner and putting guru, as well as Peggy Kirk Bell, a seventy-seven-year-old legend and one of the most famous figures in the history of women’s golf, and the queen of golf herself, Nancy Lopez. We also meet a gallery of other vivid characters from the fairways and greens, including the handsome “golf stalker” Graham, aman of mystery, wisdom and uncanny timing.Along the way, Jessica also visits some of the most beautiful golf courses in the country: the Robert Trent Jones Trail in Alabama, considered by many to be the world’s finest public golf facility; the scenic Whitefish Lake Club in

Dynacraft Avatar Evolution Titanium Driver – Custom Assembled

$99.95

The concept that bigger is better has been the mantra of golfers everywhere. By far, the vast majority of drivers sold today measure at the maximum allowable size (460cc) under the Rules of Golf. It has been proven that as the mass is spread out it increases the forgiveness or that fancy term moment of inertia to make off-center shot less penalizing and retain a greater amount of distance and feel. However, there is a right way and a wrong way to spread the mass out. If golfers could get their hands on a bigger head that was within the rules, believe me they would. This is how the Dynacraft Evolution driver concept was conceived – make better use of the volume and dimensional limits as humanly possible. The Dynacraft Evolution s footprint would normally result into a volume of 512cc, but with some creativity this driver design is able to stay within the limits. But that is only part of the story how the Dynacraft Evolution is pushing the envelope by making this our highest moment of inertia driver. Using a new construction technique, we shed weight from the only place possible the crown area. Our super-thin crown technology allows additional discretionary weight to be at our disposal for even greater forgiveness and at the same time ensures the center of gravity is in the right place to create those high launching, tape measure drives. E-Leader: Reinventing Leadership in a Connected Economy

$32

Today every business is an e-business, and whether you are selling golf outings over the Internet or manufacturing the carts, there is no escaping the fact that every aspect of organizational design is profoundly affected by the new rules of the electronic economy. What many people and organizations overlook, however, is the degree to which these new rules are requiring a fundamentally different style of leadership. In E-Leader, Robert Hargrove identifies the new mindset and skills that leaders must develop in order to thrive in a world where wealth is built on relationships and experiences, not products or even technology. The old model of leader as steward , protecting the company’s brands and assets, is being replaced by a model of leader as entrepreneur , searching constantly for new sources of wealth creation; establishing creative ventures with suppliers, distributors, and even competitors; and discovering new ways to attract, retain, and nurture talent — all at the speed of light. E-Leader captures the energy of the mavericks who are redefining leadership on the electronic frontier and shows managers in all types of organizations how to manage for the future, not for the past or even the present.
